This New Year’s resolution wreath is a super way to capture a wonderful moment in time! Now that the new year has arrived, sit and talk with your children about their hopes and dreams for it. Discuss what resolutions are, and what resolutions they may have for themselves. You might want to share some that you have made for yourself as an example and to get the conversation started.
Once you have done this brainstorming, encourage them to write down their resolutions on paper handprints to create this whimsical wreath. You will not only have a snapshot of what was important to them at this age, but a record of the size of their hand, too. It makes a wonderful keepsake for years to come and opens a beautiful dialogue between you and your children!
Take a peek at the instructions below to learn how to create your own New Year’s Resolution Wreath! Now that the holidays are over and children have time to wind down and reflect, this craft is perfect to do on a chilly day.
Supply List:
Colorful construction paper
Pens
Scissors
That’s it! Simple right? Now you just need to gather the kids up and get started!
Directions:
1. First, cut out a circle of white or lighter colored paper and write the title “My Resolutions by…” on it. If you wish to leave the center of your wreath open, you can omit this part.
2. Now begin tracing each child’s hand, or allow them to trace each others. They love this and how much it tickles their skin!
3. Cut out the hands carefully. Repeat these steps until you have 6 or 7 hands.
4. Have your child write a resolution on the palm of each hand. If they are too young, you can write the resolution for them or allow an older sibling to do it for them.
5. Glue the fingers of the hands together to form a circle. Arrange the hands so a wreath shape takes shape.
6. Finish by gluing the white card circle in the middle of the wreath, and displaying proudly! What a great way to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolutions this year as well as have a visual reminder in your home!
These wreaths can stay up year long if you wish, or brought out at the next New Year’s celebration to see how well they lived up to their resolutions! These are fun, colorful, and children really enjoy putting their hearts and minds into a project like this! Have fun and make them as a family!
